Irama Pantai Selatan

Jakarta, Indonesia

Formed in late 2017, ‘Irama Pantai Selatan’ – Indonesian for ‘Southern Beach Tunes’ is Arief Fauzan and Sigit Ezra – a ukulele duo who play music that they call ‘Maritime Pop’.

Maritime Pop itself is a simple definition of pop music filled with lyrics and themes with tropical nuances in order to further explore themselves in music and not get pigeon-holed as Hawaiian music, which is usually strongly related to the ukulele.

The duo’s musical style is actually heavily influenced by Indonesian music from the 1950s-1960s with artists such as Bing Slamet, Adikarso, Oslan Husein, Amboina Serenades, Sam Samiun, Soejoso Karsono, Tropicana Orchestra and Lima Serama Orchestra.

Nevertheless, their definition of Maritime Pop has a distinct style and approach in exploring the marine world and its surroundings.
